Corner Shop

Opening Times: everyday until the 27th October, then weekends only from the 28th October to the 17th December

In The Corner Shop you can buy Marsh Farm sausages, bacon, pork and free range eggs, as well as Tiptree Jams, ice cream made in Colchester, goats cheese and goats milk made in Maldon and home made cakes from Bury Farm Bakery in Herts.

Why has Marsh Farm opened The Corner Shop?

  • To promote local food
  • To give you a choice of lower food miles
  • To help British farmers conserve the countryside
  • To provide high quality food at competitive prices
  • To explain how your food is produced

Animal Welfare

The Marsh Farm meat on sale comes from animals that have been reared under strict welfare conditions and are on view to the visiting public. All the animals are slaughtered locally at Fowlers Brothers, a small family run abattoir in Burnham, nine miles away.

Low Food Miles

A very important welfare consideration is the amount of miles our animals travel. After travelling only nine miles to Burnham the meat is then prepared at the Wrekin Farm Shop at Althorne, which is on the return trip to South Woodham Ferrers. So our finished meat product has travelled a total of 18 miles.

Do you know how far your food has travelled?

Supermarket food travels on average 1,000 miles compared with just 30 miles to a Farmer's market!
